The survey conducted by What? Car evaluates a vehicles failure rate. This statistic examines a particular car brand and notes what percentage of vehicles tested experienced a break down or required service within one year. Land Rover topped this list with a failure rate of 71%, meaning that 71% of the Rovers in the study required service within one year of use (yikes).
The survey also developed a “reliability index” which considers the number of times a vehicle breaks down, as well as the cost and time required for repair. Unfortunately, Land Rover topped this list as well, with a reliability index rating of 300 and an average cost of repair exceeding 400 pounds (over $620).
Land Rover has maintained a strong level of popularity despite their noted mechanical mishaps. This is due in large part to an enthusiast community that possesses a mechanical know-how which allows them to avoid the need for expensive trips to the dealer or shop.
