U.S. Land Rover lovers have a tendency to forget about the LR2, especially since the arrival of the Range Rover Evoque. However the LR2 has maintained its popularity worldwide, which was proven recently after Land Rover finished production on their 300,000th Land Rover LR2.
Land Rover began manufacturing LR2 models at their Halewood Operations in Merseyside, UK in 2006, making the 300k figure all the more impressive. The 300,000th vehicle, in Barolo Black, was sent to a customer in Brazil, a country that represents one of Land Rover’s fastest growing markets.
Halewood Operations Director Richard Else noted:
"I would like to congratulate the Halewood team for reaching this superb milestone and also sustaining the highest quality standards on LR2 during the Range Rover Evoque launch period. Freelander was Land Rover's biggest selling model last year, retailing around 52,000 units globally."
No word yet on public relations plans or celebrations for the milestone - we're doubtful the LR2 will stay in production long enough to approach the "One Million Vehicle Milestone" achieved by Land Rover Discovery vehicles. Time will tell.
