The Land Rover LR4 has recently been named the “Best Tow Car” by the editors of Practical Caravan Magazine, a British publication dedicated to touring enthusiasts who seek adventure and leisure with campers or trailers.
The LR4 was named the best of the large class of vehicles, those weighing over 4,188 pounds. This is the third consecutive year the Land Rover has won the award, beating out competition from the likes of Jeep (Grand Cherokee), Volvo (XC60 & XC70), and Toyota (Hilux).
Laura Schwab, Land Rover Marketing Director noted
"It is an honor to win this award for the third consecutive year and acts as a strong independent testament to the versatility and capability of the Discovery 4. Many of our customers choose the Discovery 4 as the perfect all-rounder the ideal towing vehicle both commercially and recreationally, as well as being a comfortable and luxurious tourer on road with class leading capability off-road."
The British LR4 uses a 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel matched to an eight-speed transmission producing 255 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. Yankees are limited to the U.S. spec petrol model, which features a 5.0-liter gasoline direct-injected V-8 engine that generates 375 hp and 375 lb-ft of torque. Despite the disparity in torque, the gas-powered LR4 matches its British cousin in maximum towing capacity at 7,716 pounds.
