A new Guinness World Record has been confirmed for the longest Land Rover convoy, hosted by the Convoy for Heroes initiative. The record-breaking Rover line spanned 348 vehicles.
The 2011 Convoy for Heroes took place at the Heritage Motor Centre and Jaguar Land Rover proving ground in Warwickshire over Easter Weekend (The Guinness World Record was not formally confirmed until recently). Turnout for the event was fantastic – so good, in fact, that the 2012 event will be moved to Prestwold Hall, a much larger venue.
As program organizer Patrick Stoner explained:
“We are the victims of our own success. We had to close the booking at 350 vehicles because there simply wasn’t enough room to accommodate more, and a lot of people were disappointed. This year we are hoping to make the Convoy itself at least twice as long.”
The 2011 record-breaking convoy was an impressive accomplishment on its own, but the significance of the record paled in comparison to 14,000+ Pounds the Convoy for Heroes raised for Help for Heroes, a non-profit organization that raises money for British military servicemen and women injured in combat. The event displayed remarkable solidarity between the family and friends of military personnel and the Land Rover community.
The 2012 Convoy for Heroes will again take place over Easter Weekend (April 7th and 8th) at the new, Prestwold Hall location. 2012 should be expecting a new world record given the added capacity!
