These things always seem to happen in merry old England. Here is a Land Rover Defender, which can handle 40-degree hills, ford 4-foot rivers, climb like a billy goat and pull like a draft horse, and yet somehow these people couldn't manage maneuvering over a simple stretch of railroad track. Nope. They got hung up, and got out just in time, when a freight train travelling at 30 mph slammed into it.
The train hit the Land Rover at about 30mph, shunting it 200 yards down the line before the train came to a halt. British Transport Police are hunting the occupants - who escaped to safety before the collision and are probably just embarrassed to be found.
They are also investigating how the vehicle - which was not stolen - came to be on the line before the incident at about 6.40pm on Friday. We'd like to know the answer to that one ourselves.
DC Roy McMichael said: "It appears that the occupants of the vehicle fled when the Land Rover got stuck in the tracks. A freight train came through and struck the car at about 30mph.
"The Land Rover has been completely destroyed and the train had to be taken out of service but luckily nobody was injured."
The world is a dangerious place. Let's be careful out there.
