There has been an arms race of sorts among automakers to provide consumers with the most cutting-edge infotainment experience available. With smart phones, tablets and other and “personal” technologies developing at a rapid pace, automakers need to stay ahead of the curve. JLR has recently set up a new research and development facility in Portland, Oregon allowing the company to work hand-in-hand with Intel to create what they are calling, “in-vehicle cockpit experiences that connect car, device, and cloud.” The ‘Open Software Technology Center” will complement the company’s efforts already underway at their UK facilities, while giving Jaguar Land Rover a useful position near tech-focused Silicon Valley.
