Jaguar unveiled its first SUV crossover vehicle this year - the C-X16 - at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, and word has it that Land Rover intends to use this new Jaguar model as the basis for the Grand Evoque.
Alternately referred to as the Range Rover Evoque XL, various reports have indicated Land Rover’s intentions to develop a vehicle that would bridge the model gap that currently exists between the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. Early chatter suggested that the Grand Evoque would resemble a “stretched-out” version of the existing XL, providing added space and legroom. Such a model would likely require Land Rover to develop a new chassis for the vehicle, but by using the C-X16 the company can side step that issue while increasing their economies of scale.
The Grand Evoque project has been code named L560 and sources suggest that a production version of the vehicle could be ready to hit markets as soon as 2016.
