In October of 2013, Land Rover took three prototype Range Rover Hybrids for a journey from Solihull, in the UK, to the headquarters of its parent company, Tata Motors. The journey of over 16,000 kilometers, crossed 13 countries, and took 53 days.
Now they have released a series of three videos detailing the trials and tribulations of man and machine on this ground breaking expedition.
The Silk Trail Expedition, as they called it, took the Range Rovers through all sorts of different terrain, over unsurfaced roads, and even up into and over the Himalayas, where they and the crew members had to cope with rough mountain trails and the effects of extreme temperatures and low oxygen levels.
Says Roger Crathorne, Land Rover's Technical PR Manager, "There's nothing like a real-life scenario to prove the vehicle...our engineers have got to test the vehicle in the worst possible conditions."
As expected, the Range Rovers all survived the expedition with minimal difficulty. Range Rover Hybrids are available in the UK and other markets, but currently Land Rover does not offer a hybrid vehicle for sale in the North American market.
