Land Rover has a long history with the James Bond franchise, and after his iconic Aston Martins, they may be the next vehicles that come to mind for the use of 007. Now, in a new endeavor, Jaguar Land Rover will celebrate these connections as part of the new 007 Elements interactive experience in Sölden, Austria.
Sölden is home to the 10,000-foot Gaislachkogl mountain, where the snowy opening scenes of 2015’s SPECTRE took place with some seriously built Defenders and Range Rover Sports. Thus, it’s an appropriate place for the new experience.
Bond has driven Land Rovers for decades. In 1983’s Octopussy he had a Range Rover Classic convertible. Timothy Dalton parachuted out of a Series III 88” in The Living Daylights just before it careened over the edge of a cliff into the sea off Gibraltar. Range Rovers are frequent background fodder in all of the films, and in 2012’s Skyfall Bond drove a crew cab Defender 110 on a chase through the streets of Istanbul. These vehicles will be featured in footage in the exhibit, as well as some of the Jaguar vehicles featured over the years.
There will also be an exhibit on the new technology Jaguar Land Rover is working on, especially some of the electric drive technology which is expected to make a showing in the next film.
As the next Bond film – Daniel Craig’s last – is in the works for 2019, now sounds like a great time to head to Austria and catch up on these ties with Land Rover, and maybe see if you can guess what vehicle will inevitably be in the next film. Why not? You only live twice, so live and let die…
