A one-of-a-kind 1951 electric Land Rover Series will be raffled off by Sustainable Nantucket on Monday, October 21st. The event will raise money for a very important non-profit organization that works to foster a healthier community by supporting local agriculture and artisans.
The restored, two-door, short-wheel-base electric Land Rover Series I is the first of its kind (as far as we know) and features an electric motor and lead-acid batteries. The vehicle keeps its original, 4-speed gearbox and high/low transfer case, and enjoys a range of 50 - 70 miles per charge (charged via 120v household plug). Chassis and exterior repairs have this Series looking as great as it did when it left the assembly line - now with the added benefit of improved fuel economy!
It’s great to see a community come together to support a wonderful organization. Sustainable Nantucket is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization that is cultivating a healthy Nantucket by building a more locally-based and self-reliant food system on-island, and a strong local economy. Sustainable Nantucket’s (SN) programs --including the Farmers & Artisans Market, Farm to School program, Nantucket Grown Campaign and Community Agriculture Program-- represent a multi-level strategy designed to rebuild the local food system through education, advocacy, training, and partnerships that include the next generation of farmers and community stakeholders. Sustainable Nantucket has been in existence since 2000, and is committed to growing a healthy and sustainable food system & community on the island.
