September 28th, 2016. Today, Land Rover has officially revealed the latest Discovery model on the eve of the Paris Motor Show. For the first time, they are showing it up close and personal, with all of its camouflage wrapping removed, and have issued an onslaught of press releases and web pages detailing the major features of the model.
In the Paris Motor show reveal, the Discovery 5 as well as one each of all its four predecessors, were driven out onto an elaborate stage-cum-diorama made up of a Guinness World Record-setting 5,805,846 Lego blocks.
The 5th generation of Discovery, while a completely new design, appears to have kept all of the off road and towing capacity of the older, more utilitarian models. The tow rating is still the standard 3,500kg, and the massive articulation, 11 inch ground clearance, and 30-plus inch wading depth will most likely get you to where you're trying to go, in all but the most ludicrously extreme conditions.
I won't go into excruciating detail here on all the features of the new model, but the gist of it is, 1,000 pounds lighter than the LR4, optional 254-hp/443-lb-ft Td6 turbo diesel for an extra $2,000, and 340-hp/332-lb-ft supercharged 3 liter gasoline V6 as standard, with an 8-speed autobox as standard. Base price SE will start at $49,990, the HSE coming in just under $57,000. There will be a limited "first Edition" model available in exclusive color and trim packages, starting from $74,950.
