Fans of Bob Marley (check) and Land Rovers (double check) will be interested to know that the legendary reggae musician was also a Rover enthusiast. In fact, Marley’s 1976 Series III has been a draw for tourists at the Bob Marley Museum, located at Marley’s former home in Jamaica.
This popular Land Rover (said to have been Marley’s favorite) will be temporarily leaving its home at the Bob Marley Museum. Unfortunately, 25 years of sitting outside exposed to nature’s elements have left Marley’s former ride in desperate need of repair. A quick glance at the exterior reveals peeling paint and a broken grill; one can only imagine the work that remains under the hood. That’s why the Bob Marley Museum has agreed to send the vehicle to a local auto shop for restoration.
The Series III will surely be missed, as Bob Marley Museum General Manager Jacqueline Lynch-Stewart noted the vehicle, “is always at the front” and “very popular.” Lynch-Stewart was unable to obtain a timeframe for the repairs, as the extent of the damage and the subsequent restoration work needed has not yet been evaluated. All parts removed from the Rover will be kept and put on display by the museum.
"I know they [visitors] are going to miss it. What we will have to do is take a photograph and show people that it has been sent to be refurbished."
