Much has been made of the new, 2014 Range Rover Sport and its remarkable performance. The vehicle recently set a new record time in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb and is being heralded as one of the very best performance SUVs on the markets. For it’s next trick, the Range Rover Sport will be pitted against a Vickers Supermarine Spitfire propeller plane.
The high-speed promotional event is part of this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed held at the Goodwood House in England. For the demonstration, the Range Rover did a down-and-back drag sprint run on a grassy track, while the spitfire raced over head, completed an upside-down loop and returned to the starting point. Powered by a 510 horsepower, supercharged engine, the Range Rovers Sport was out-powered by the 1,750 horsepower Merlin V12 engine found in the plane, but it more than held its own.
