Marketing research firm AutoPacific calls the LR2 “ideal” in the face of so many luxury crossovers it’s competing against. How can this be?

Land Rover LR2

In order to be deemed AutoPacific’s “Ideal” Vehicle, it must dish up a mix of expectation and reality; quantitative gauges measuring, in the end, buyers who would be least likely to change their vehicle. Ergo, they are driving their “Ideal” vehicle. And for 2009, that was the LR2.

The LR2 simply outclasses its competition in the Luxury Crossover SUV class. To begin with, it has Land Rover’s Terrain Response System. You know the one that sets throttle response, ABS, traction control limits and other more mysterious sub-systems to match specific terrains. Then there’s the Active Roll Mitigation, which reduces roll by automatically tapping the braking system to more effectively – and safely – heel through corners. Then add luxury touches like heated seats and windshield, perforated Napoli leather seats and the general ambiance of the cabin you don’t get with other sport-utes and yes, you have yourself an “ideal” vehicle. No surprise, really.
