The best way to “drive green” isn’t by completely eliminating emissions (a technical impossibility at this point) but by off-setting them by other means. And that’s exactly what Land Rover has been doing since 2009.

Land Rover Goes Green?

One of the niftiest features on a new Range Rover is a £140 addition to the car’s bottom line that its driver will never see. It doesn’t make the ride smoother, increase its off-road capability, enlarge its carrying capacity or boost its performance. What it does is buy you a subscription to Climate Care, an independent CO2 offset provider that gets you 45,000 miles of guilt-free driving; guaranteeing that your vehicle’s CO2 emissions will be reduced by an equal or greater amount elsewhere on the planet.

You can get the Carbon Offset Program with the LR4, LR2 and Range Rover line-up and enjoy guilt-free driving that’s likely better than any of those “look-at-me” so-called green cars on the market. It may not come with a big decal that splashes your carbon neutral status to other drivers on the road… but you’ll know.
