Land Rover has recently announced pricing for the Land Rover Discovery Sport, their new model targeted at customers in the middle of the luxury market. With a base price of $38,920, the new Discovery Sport should help capitalize on a large consumer base unwilling to pay for the more expensive vehicles in the current lineup.
The Discovery Sport will replace the LR2 in Land Rover’s fleet, offering 3rd row seating and using an all-aluminum architecture and frame like the Range Rover Evoque. The Sport will also feature the same 240hp engine and 9-speed transmission found in Evoque models, improving economies of scale for the company. It remains unclear how many models Land Rover has planned for the new Discovery line of vehicles, but we imagine all we be at a “lower” price point as compared to the rest of the Land Rover lineup.
“The launch of Discovery Sport is a pivotal moment in the 66-year history of Land Rover,” said Phil Popham, Jaguar Land Rover Group marketing director. “Not only does it mark the introduction of the first new member of our expanding Discovery family, it also brings the versatility of 5+2 seating to the compact premium SUV market.”
