Land Rover has made leaps and bounds in vehicle development in recent years, but there is a lasting popularity in the original models, vehicles that remain at the heart of Land Rover’s brand and heritage. This explains why the first Range Rover ever made – model #001 – recently fetched over $200,000 through a private seller.
The Range Rover first rolled off the production line on January 2, 1970, leading the way for what would be one of the defining 4x4 brands in modern history. The vehicle was originally owned by Michael Furlong but was sold into new ownership in 1975. Its third owner discovered the vehicle in the 1990s when it underwent a 6-year restoration from the ground up. This Range Rover includes all of its original matching numbers components, including chassis, axles, gearbox, aluminum bonnet, original body shell and engine making it increasingly rare and driving up its value to collectors.
Some may take pause and realize that $200,000 is enough money to purchase one of the new, high end Range Rover Autobiography Editions, with its unrivaled luxury, technology and superior driving experience. A two-door may not feature the bells and whistles of its younger siblings, but it possesses the Range Rover DNA in its truest form and for some, that is nearly priceless.
